      - Gatsby could never achieve his dream, he came close but was stopped short. Connecting to American Dream, he wanted too much, trying to win Daisy got him killed. However, Daisy was the main thing he wanted in life, so life would have been dreadful without her.

        He put his fate in his own hands instead of Guitar's. By "surrendering", he finally achieves what he had wanted his whole life--flight--in order to survive.

        He jumped towards Guitar to kill him. Morrison does not tell us who prevails, or if Milkman succeeds at flight.
