advantages and disadvantages of output devises
printers
laser
advantages
supplies last longer
high printing spped
very quiet
very reliable
no wet pages that smudge
they are cheaper to run
high quality printouts
disadvantages
colour lasers are very expensive to buy
power consumption
more expensive to buy
most laser printers are larger than inkjet printers
inkjet
advantages
they do not produce ozone or organic vapours which can cause health problems
high quality print
relatively small compared to laser compared to laser printers
quietness of operation
inkjet printers are usually cheaper than laser printers
disadvantages
ink smudges
cartridges do not last long
high cost of the ink cartridges
dot matrix
advantages
can be used with continuous stationery
cheaper to run than inkjet printers
can be used to print multi-part stationery
disadvantages
low quality printouts
unsuitable for printing graphics
very noisy
more expensive to buy than inkjet printers
multimedia projectors
advantages
can show video to a large audience who may be seated some distance from the screen
many people can view that is being presented
disadvantages
the cooling fans on the projector create noise which can be distracting
requires a darkened room otherwise the image will appear dim
the image quality may not be as high as when screen on a computer screen
requires the user to know how to set up and run the equipment
3D
advantages
it is cheaper to use 3D printing rather than traditional methods of manufacture despite 3D printers being expensive
it is much easier to produce customised products as they can just be printed out from designs made using design software on the computer
can covert designs to prototypes a lot faster compared to traditional manufacturing or prototypes. this makes making small design changes and seeing the finishes product in much less time
disadvantages
dangerous items such as weapons can be manufacturers using 3D printers
there is a limited number of materials that can be used with 3D printers which limitts what can be manufactured
the manufacture of goods using 3D printers is less skillet compared to the user of older techniques which takes work from skillet manufactures
wide format printers
disadvantages
expensive especially if only used occasionally
wide formal printers are quite large which can be a problem in small offices where space is limited
advantages
do not need to use the services of a professional print shops which can be expensive
printouts larger than A4 size such as maps, banners, plans, etc. can be printed
can print on paper larger than A4 so is the ideal for printing maps, scale drawings, posters etc
monitors
TFT
advantages
they can be easily positioned to suit the user because they are light
the radiation given off is much less than that by a CRT monitor
they are cheaper to run as they use less power than CRT monitors
they do not get as hot as CRT monitors and energy is not wasted in the summer using air conditioning to cool offices down
they are thin so they so they don't take up desk space
they do not create glare and may be less lightly to cause eye strain and headaches
they are ideal where only one person needs to view the screen
they are very light and this is why they are used in laptop computers
disadvantages
they are not easy to repair, so if they go wrong it is usually cheaper to repair them, which is not very environmentally friendly
they have a narrow viewing angle so the image is not as clear as CRT when viewing from the side. they are less useful if many people are viewing the screen
IPS
advantages
they are much thinner than than CRT monitors and therefore take up less desk space
less glare on the screen compared to CRT monitors and are therefore better when used in brightly lit roots
wider viewing angle makes it easier for groups to watch
much more energy efficient compared to a CRT monitor
disadvantages
not as energy efficient as an LED monitor
not as good when used in dimly-lit rooms
not as good as graduating shades of colour compared to an LED monitors
CRT
advantages
can be used with a light pen to produce and edit drawings using CAD software
sometimes they are used where several people need to view the screen at the same time, for example where several designers are viewing a prototype as they have a wide angle of viewing
disadvantages
glare on the screen can be a problem
they are much heavier than the and present a safety problem when being moved, due to their weight
they generate a lot of heat and you can make rooms hot in the summer
they are bulky and take up a large amount of space on the desk
flicker can cause headaches and eyesight problems
LED
advantages
They are much lighter than CRT monitors
Energy saving compared to LCD and CRT monitors
Better picture quality when watching sports or laying games
They are a lot thinner than CRT monitors and the same thickness
as LDC monitors
disadvantages
If you sit off-centre the visibility is poor
More expensive compared to LDC monitors
other
buzzers
The control system issues a buzz or a sound to inform the
householder
Buzzers can also be automatic
Often act as warning signs or indicate that a control process has
been completed.
heaters
Can be turned on or off according to control signals issued by a
computer
Some control devices with heaters are automatic
motors
Computer can issue control signals to turn electric motors on or
off
motors can be used for various things like in automatic washing to turn valves on/off or even the movements of robots in factories
light/lamps
In computer-controlled greenhouses, optimum light levels are
maintained by switching on lights when the natural level falls
below a certain value
Some cars also turn lights on and off automatically depending on
the light levels
Can be controlled using a control system that has a light sensor to sense the light level
speakers
People may use their computer for playing their CD's, while
working or maybe listening to music via internet
Speakers are also used to output the sound when you watch a
film on the computer
Any application which requires sound will need speakers or
earphones around.
Speakers built in laptop computers. Desktop have basic speakers
but people prefer to upgrade them
