Relationships
"He sure loved that little boy" and Mike returned that love" (Bissinger, page 80)
It shows that the relationship between the father and Mike was a close one and that is important since close relationships have a huge impact
Right before that quote they stated "His daddy worshiped him" (Bissinger, page 80) suggesting that his father loved him to the point and saying that Mike returns it suggest it was a mutual bond as well.
"After all football was what have brought the two of them together in the first place and it seemed destined to keep them together. At least for as long as the season lasted." (Bissinger, page 92)

expectations
“go to college, there could be no two ways about it” (Bissinger, page 79).
He expects Mike to make responsible choices as he is growing as shown by this quote #
"If you get hurt, that's fine, you're hurt. But if you get a lick, and you lay there and whine about it, you don't belong on the field anyway." (Bissinger, page 86)
It's important because, The coach expects them to grow up and suck it up when they get hurt to determine whether they will be worthy to play on the field
He explains this when he says "It's not a party were goin' to, it's a business trip" (Bissinger, page 85)
He has his son’s football season to look forward to…I got him to live through, and that’s something very special” (Bissinger, page 92)
His father according to the evidence, expects much from him and this is important because it could impact him during his playing
