What steps can be done to eliminate the issue of homelessness in our communities.
What I know about the problem already
There are several homeless people In our country.
It's not easy for a homelss person to get a job typically
Many of the homeless people that I see are Veterans
Many times homeless shelters become full
Theres more behind being homeless than being too lazy to get job
Reasons for this may include deep depression, mental illness, etc
What do I need to learn about the problem?
how many homeless people are in our country
The main causes of homelessness
Ways in which you can reduce the issue
Generally how long is person homeless for?
Why Is it a problem?
There are several people without homes
They cannot provide for themselves
If the homeless shelters are full, this leaves them sleeping outside regardless of weather
It affects people who are not homeless as well. it's uncomfortable and very sad to see somebody who's living this way.
Who is it a problem for?
Homeless people because it limits their lives and leaves them very little option to get back on their feet
ordinary people: our streets are filled with people asking for money and help.
Family members: Sometimes people family members become homeless making it very hard especially if theyre not in a position to help
Employers: wont always hire a person without a home because you need to write an address on an application.
What solutions have been proposed before?
There is homeless shelters and they can help provide and help to find jobs until getting back on their feet.
4 solutions: whats the solution, how is it a solution or how would It solve the problem, who can implement this change, what steps need to be taken to put it into plae.
solution 2: permanent housing assistance. (as long as they get a job lined up) only a certain period of time until they get on feet and then let somebody else move in.
The homeless will be able to put down an address when applying for jobs.
This will give homeless a chance for a better life.
County or state governments can implement this change
Steps to be taken: Research assisted living by chatting with somebody who knows how to get you started such as a nearby homeless shelter.
Once they find out how to apply for assisted living programs, they can start thinking of jobs to be lined up
Solution 3: Train young people to be hard workers
They will have the knowledge of basic skills so that they will always have the opportunity to continue their education and get jobs.
County or state governments can implement this solution by lowering the working age and parents can also by pushing their children to be hard workers.
Create more programs for youth that involve learning how to be a hard worker
The youth will grow up with knowledge and will always have a job.
Homelessness will then be minimized.
Solution 1: Create more shelters
They often become too full and crowded leaving not enough room.
This will be a place for only those people to stay. It will be cheaper in the long run than getting them on permanent housing assistance.
The state or county governments can implement this solution by buying out a space to use for this purpose.
it will not be a permanent solution because there will still be homeless people but it could get quite a few of them off of the streets.
Solution 4: Create addiction recovery programs for the homeless
Many homeless people are suffering from addiction of drugs and alcohol. A rehab center could help them become sober and give them a chance to get jobs.
The city or state county can implement this by creating these places
