Of mice and men
-
The Movie begins With a woman in a red, torn dress running from George and Lenny.
After being "kicked off" the bus on their way to a range, they had to camp outside for one night. This lead to them coming late for work, but George still managed to convince the boss of the range, that he and Lenny were good workers.
When they camp ouside, Lenny wants George to tell a story about a their future farm. Lenny likes the story because of the Rabbits at the farm that he wants to pet because he loves soft Things. George on the other hand is thinking about the freedom and hapiness.. Their dream is to live independently together in the little farm.
-
The rabbits, then, symbolize not only innocence, but also the downfall of innocence in a harsh world
On their way to the range Lenny pets a mouse to death, and later in the Movie he also pets a puppy to Death. He doesn`t do this on purpose though.
Why did George lie to the boss about hthem being cousins and Lennie getting kicked in the head as little, because it would make more sense if he took care of a relative than take care of an old mental unstable man.
The similarities between how the dogs were treated and the way some human beings were treated is that when youre old and maybe not able to work as good as the other workers, youre not worth anything anymore. Cause under the Great Depression, all that mattered was your work skills. E.g.Both the old dog and Lennie was shot in the beachhead because it wasn't`t use for them anymore
Curley is constantly angry With Lennie because he feels threatned by him, since he`s much bigger and stronger than Curley
I think Curley wants to start a fight With Lennie to show his Power, and because he thinks Lennie is making fun of him
-
Curleys wife feels lonely-and insignificant, she doesn't even have a name in the film. She feels like shes Curleys possession. during the movie she pretends to be looking for her husband, when she in fact is just trying to find company. curley gets jealous really easily, and he wont let anyone else touch his wife. His wife probably feels lonely since she`s the only woman at the range, curley is also aggressive.
-
Curleys wife wanted to be an actress, but she didn'tt have any money.

From these descriptions we learn that Lennie is a lumbering, giant of a man who is physically awkward (as he draws his hands like bear paws), has limited "social skills" (gulping water and snorting like a horse), who is also stubborn (like a terrier, when he resists giving the dead mouse to George). Strong as a bull and works like a bull. He has a master, just like a dog/ loyal. example: when crooks was "talking hurt" to George.
Lennie is described as a transition between nature and human beings. Lennie is not innocent in a conventional sense. He is capable of real violence-as any animal is. he is an impulsive being who lives lives slightly outside the bounds of human morality. Lennie is innocent and acts on istinct- therefore he can`t really be held accountable for his actions.
-
Why did crooks finally agree to let Lennie into his room?Crooks agrees to let Lennie into his room because he knows how it feels to be treated differently.( he is the only African American at the range), and maybe he felt lonely like Lennie.
There was a lack of a communication between Lennie and Curleys wife. Because of Lennies mental instability he isnt able to keep a real conversation, and he doesn'tt stop touching Curleys wifes hair when she tells him to.Lennie is glancing on her. Both need someone to talk to and they don`t listen to each other. Both think about their own dream.
When Candy is alone with the murdered girl he says "poor bastard". I think he`s referring to Lennie as the "poor bastard". He probably called him that because he was angry at him for killing her, but at the same time he felt sorry for him since he knew he didn't´t have any bad intentions
Lennie was probably confused and frightened because he knew he did something bad. quote from the film " I did something bad". The consequences he thought about was that he wouldn't`t be able to tend the rabbits
setting: Ruthless, lawless society (specially in rural arias)
related to the setting: dreams, him looking at her
Character description
Lennie is a really big and super strong guy, but inside he`s little and vulnerable. Because of his mental disability he completely Depends on George .The two men share a vision where thety live together in a farm, and Lenny believes this wholeheartly. His love of petting soft Things such as small animals, dresses and Peoples hair, leads to disaster.
Breaks Curleys hand. Curlet thought he laughed at him, and he hated big guys so he picked a fight With Lennie. The setting: All that mattered was to be strong so that you would be a good worker at the range. masculinaty important.
petting soft things helps Lennie feel safe. In petting dead mice, Lennie is doing something that makes him feel safe
Their dream is really important for their relationship because it`s their common goal. Alll Lennie thinks about is tending the rabbits. George uses this to make Lennie be good.

George is a small man who travels With and cares for Lenny. Although he frequently talks about how easy his life would be With Lenny, he obviously feels devoted to him.
