They were looking for a better life, and were hoping to later get a farm for themselves
their dream was all about getting their own farm, and be their own bosses With their own land. The dream is very important to both Lennie and George. The Movie contains a lot of parts where they mention this dream, which shows us how important this is for their relationship. it was some kind of finishline for them both, and it was all they worked and stribed for. George also wanted Lennie to think about this dream when he died, so they talked about it right before George had to shoot him
