Geroge and Lennie had to escape from the ranch they were working on because Lennie diid something bad. He scared a women.

George lied to the boss because he was embarrassed that he was taking care of Lennie. In that time, the mentally hurt ones wasn’t taking good care of, and normally, people would just leave him. Maybe George feels sorry for him, or guilt, or the need to help him.
Differences between how the dog and human were treated.The dog was treated different because when it was old and tired, they decided to shoot it. Because they didn’t have much use for it anymore. Candy is also old and tired, he has lost one of his arm, and can’t do much. But still no one would kill him. That’s the different with the dog and human’s treatment.
