Symbols
their dream about buying their own ranch could be a symbol of hope, and they use it as motivation to keep going.
The mice. Lennie killing the mice, could be hint for what happens later, when he breaks curely`s wifes neck. The mice could also be a symbol of Lennie and his faith. killing with affection.
Candy`s dog is a symbol of Lennies faith. Both good-for-nothing, and shot from behind. symbol of aging, someone who has outlived their faith. Candy felt like this, he was old and almost finished at the farm.

Lennie is laughing at the wrong time, making a man angry. He then endes up crushing the mans hand after taking a few hits himself.
They make the guy lie about how he broke his hand to protect Lennie. Curly accepts this because he knows that what he did was wrong, and it would be bad if it came out, didnt want to eople to know that he was weak.
Curly hates big guy, wanted to show that he was stronger or better than the big guy Lennie. strengt is important in the 1930s. He also did not like that Lennie was talking to his wife.
