Characters
Macbeth: an ambitious Scottish nobleman. murders the king of Scotland "Duncan" and then becomes king
Lady Macbeth: Macbeth's wife. Persuades Macbeth to kill the king. then goes mad and kills herself out of guilt
Duncan: The King of Scotland at the start of the play and dies in his sleep
Malcolm: Duncan's son. He flees after Duncan's death, and becomes king at the end of the play
Macduff: A noble soldier. Doesn't trust Macbeth and eventually kills him.
Lady Macduff: Macduff's wife. Macbeth kills her and her children
Banquo: A brave soldier and nobleman. He's best friends with Macbeth but he is murdered by Macbeth's messengers
The 3 Witches: Evil supernatural beings who can predict the future. the leader is called Hecate
Act summaries
Act 1- The Witches make 3 prophecies (Macbeth becomes thane of Glamis, Cawdor and King of Scotland which all come true)
Act 2+3: Duncan and Banquo are murdered by Macbeth. Macbeth hosts a banquet which is ruined when Macbeth sees Banquo's Ghost (no one else can see.)
Act 4: the three apparitions (Bloody child, Head in armour ONLY and child with a crown holding a tree)
Act 5: Macbeth is overthrown (Macbeth is killed by Macduff, Lady Macbeth kills herself and Malcom becomes king of Scotland)
