  - - - in education, the coordinator helps supervise the use of the Access to learning grant given t disabled students, making sure they have all the equipment and assistance needed for equal learning. this includes translators, note takers, etc.
      - Within the work environment, support coordinators make sure those with disabilities have everything they need to do their jobs to a professional level. similarly to education, this includes note takers, equipment and access.

        Searches library catalogs and electronic resources to find those needed by the student.
      - Reader
        Reads academic texts aloud to the student or records them for later use. May read the student's own work back to them.

- - - - One of the largest and most well-known charities offering real-time captions to the arts & theatre performances in the UK is STAGETEXT. Their strapline is Every word counts.
        
        Stagetext "Provide captioning and live subtitling in cultural
        venues so that deaf, deafened and hard-of-hearing (HoH)
        audiences can access live events."

        Stagetext regularly receive messages from people stating how wonderful their service is and how it has changed their life by providing access to performances and arts.
      - Most British Stenographers/ VSTTR are members of the BIVR. Each member must pass an assessment to check that their skills match the standard required.
        Stenographers can achieve QRR status (Qualified Real-time Reporter) status. Those with QRR means they have achieved a distinction in regards to speed and accuracy* at their assessment!

    - - With live captioning / verbatim reporting, anybody can find these records useful. Indeed, the work VSTTRs produce is utilised by many hearing people after the event itself. This can be to check facts, review witness statements, aid with general comprehension (for example, captioning on a technical instruction video) and even just as a document/ record for posterity!
    - - With progressions in digital technology we are starting to see more 'customised' use of software for reporting as well as innovative displays of their work.
        Laptops, iPad screens, digital projectors, webcasting... all
        kinds of weird and wonderful tech is changing the way VSTTR work is presented.
        
        Stagetext ran a campaign last week for Captioning Awareness Week (06th-13th November).
        The aim of the campaign was to raise awareness of the need for live captioning across the arts.
- - - - An interpreter must meet a specific level of fluency in order to accurately convey meaning to and from each source language. He/She must also have an excellent understanding of the cultural nuances of each language, thus it is important that an interpreter have an adequate social and professional network of D/deaf individuals around them to maintain a strong cultural understanding.
        
        Interpreters generally are trained and follow the social model of understanding a disability in order to provide services in a way that identifies and breaks down barriers and provide access to sign language users. Thus, if society as a whole would all learn to sign, the D/deaf people would not feel as closed off from the rest of the world and would have access to many options without needing support.
        
        BSL interpreters are recommended to register, in order to be part of an ethical body, who can regulate the work they do, and provide accountability and a grievance procedure to clients.

        The Act implies that all students should be able to arrange the support they need to fulfil their academic potential _ this may include involving the services of an educational psychologist.
        This type of support is in line with the “social model” of disability, because it removes the barrier to education for students affected.
