BLOOD VESSELS AND CIRCULATORY PATHWAYS
Systemic Circulation
Oxygenated blood is pumped
Out of the Left Ventricle
And enters the
Aorta
And goes to the Systemic Arteries
To the Systemic Arterioles
Systemic Capillaries
Gas Exchange in the Systemic Capillaries

Deoxygenated blood from the Systemic Arteries is pumped
to the Systemic Venules
To the Systemic Veins
To the Superior and Inferior Vena Cava
To the Right Side of the Heart
To be circulated back to the pulmonary circulation

Pulmonary Circulation
Deoxygenated blood is transported to the lungs from the
Right Atrium
To the Right Ventricle
To the Pulmonary Trunk
To the Pulmonary Arteries
To the Pulmonary Arterioles
For Gas Exchange in the Pulmonary Capillaries
Oxygenated blood transported from the lungs
To Pulmonary Veenules

to the
Heart
To be Tansported to the Systemic Circulation
Hepatic Portal Circulation
From small intestines
to
Superior Mesenteric Vein

From Large Intestines
to

Common Portal Hepatic Vein
Hepatic Portal Vein
to
The Liver
Blood flows through sinusoids
Mixes with arterial oxygenated blood entering the liver via the hepatic arteries
Blood leaves the liver through hepatic veins that merge with the inferior vena cava
Fetal Circulation
Oxygenated blood from the placenta enters the body of the fetus through the umbilical vein
Blood from the umbilical vein is shunted away from the liver and directly toward the inferior vena cava through the ductus venosus
Oxygenated blood in the ductus venosus mixes with deoxygenated blood in the inferior vena cava
Blood from the superior and inferior vena cava empties into the right atrium
Most of blood shunted from the right atrium to the left atrium via the foramen ovale
Blood flows into the left ventricle then pumped out through the aorta
Blood travels to the rest of the body and the deoxygenated blood returns to the placenta through a pair of umbilical arteries
Nutrient and gas exchange occurs at the placenta
Small amount of blod enters the right ventricle and pulmonary trunk but most shunted from pulmonary trunk to the aorta through a vessel detour called the ductus arteriosus
At birth, when baby takes first breath
Pulmonary resistance drops, and the pulmonary arteries dilate
Pressure on the right side of the heart decreases so that the pressure is greater on the left side of the heart
Normal circulation begins
Placenta Circulation
Systemic circulation to
Mom's blood
Uterine artery
Uterus
Uterine basil plate in placenta
Capilaries
Blood oxygen and nutrients diffuses to chorionic plate
Back to Uterus
To systemic circulation
Babies blood
through the umbilical cords arteries and veins
to the chrionic plate at placenta
Babies waste diffuses to basil plate in placenta and picks up oxygen and nutrients
Back to the umbilical arteries and veins
To baby
Capillaries in basil plate picks up waste
Back to uterus
Back to mom's systemic circulation
Coronary Circulation
Oxygenated blood
Pumped out of the left ventricle of the heart
Enters the ascenting aorta
Right Coronary Artery
Branches to
Marginal Artery
Posterior Interventricular Artery
Left Coronary Artery
Branches to
Circumflex Artery
Anterior Interventricular Artery
Deoxygenated blood
Pumped to the Coronary Sinus
From the Great Cardiac Vein
From the Middle Cardiac Vein
From the Small Cardiac Vein
Blood enters the Inferior & Superior Vena Cava
