Epidemology
By the age of 75 years, the cumulative incidence of epilepsy is 3400 per 100,000 men (3.4%) and 2800 per 100,000 women (2.8%).
Pathophysiology
Described as a sudden disruption in the brain's electrical function causing an abnormal amount of discharges of cortical neurons.
Risk Factors
Hypoglycemia, along with fatigue and lack of sleep, and emotional or physical stress are some of the most common triggers.
Ingestiing large amounts of water, consitpation, use of antipsychotic drugs when combined with alcohol
Flashing lights, loud noises, and certain odors.
