how functions function
dominant function is carried by the libido to the conscious where it fuses with the ego and becomes the guiding force
the opposite function gets diffused in the unconscious and merges with everything else in the unsonscious
when a function is taken from the uc to the C, it gets differentiated and takes form. it is separated from the opposite function
more the opposite function loses energy, it falls towards the lowest of UC, and activate the archetypes. this activates the Autonomous Partial systems and lead to mental disorder. (wherein complexes are now possessing the mind)

Consciousness
-
EGO is the subject of all personal acts of consciousness. it is the gatekeeper, it determines which experiences are included in the consciousness and which are forgotten or repressed. It determines the contents of the personal Unconscious
-
-
Collective Unconscious
COMPLEXES a sub personality formed by cluster of content coming together, individual may have a strong preoccupation with it.
Split personality, Independent individualities
-
Persona vs the ego (persona is the encounter into the world, whereas the anima and animus are the paths into the unconscious... meeting with the shadow vs meeting with the anima)
SHADOW - sexual and aggressive tendencies; negative attributes that we project on others but dont accept for themselve; not always negative but in conflict with persona; conscious vs repressed
anima/animus the male shadow is the female animus, and female shadow is the male anima
SELF
the self emerges when the anima (diff meaning) rises from the UC and is accepted into the conscious. it's a profound process at the end of which complexes are resolved and lose the ability to posses the individual
pscyhe has the purpose of unifying the unconscious and conscious, it had to lead to individuation(self realisation) whereby each complex receives equal opportunity to express itself and expand. If a single complex receives too much libido (or life force) it essentially comes to posses the individual and becomes a disorder.
-
Mandala is the artistic representation of the reconciliation of the opposites and fusion of the C and UC.
when personality develops like this, it is called indivduation process wherein the self has to be protected from the persona and the suggestive power of the UC
the center of personality is no longer the ego but is a midpoint between the C and the UC (or a point on the spectrum b/w C and UC)

AECHETYPES
ARCHETYPES cognitive categories / predispositions humans are born with; primodal images; Great mother, Child Hero, Wise old man
Mythological Motifs (dreams of mankind as a whole)... motifs are srchetypes that become conscious through symbolisation
collective spirit that is essentially unconscious, cannot be described in the conscious but meaning may be circumscribed,
-
memories of a race, mentalities of members, inherited, (germans are violent because of their pre-Christ god Wotan)
then he refuted the organic arguments and stated that there is a prephysiological, pre material cosmic level which gradually develop into the biological and psychic structures (autonomous functioning systems are also developed developed in the pre material state, known as symbols.
archetypes are the core of the Autonomous functioning system and once activated, it becomes the core of the individual's consciousness.
-
Symbols vs Signs
JUNG vs FREUD; basic drive as self preservation vs sexual pleasure (first five years are self preservation, then the libido gets directed into the sexual urges, rest of the life, extroverted.. after forties it turns into philosophical questioning and introverted)
-
emerge in the unconscious through intuition and revelation and if they are accepted by the ego, they become the guiding force

History and culture
dreams are the places where UC has freedom of expression, and what we see there are superstitions,
symbols (archetypes).
