Magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) is the standard treatment for the prevention and control of seizures in women with preeclampsia or eclampsia.
Severe hypertension must be addressed after magnesium infusions.
Antihypertensive agents need to be used to keep diastolic blood pressure between 90 and 100 mm Hg.

- severe fatal growth restriction
- greater than 37 weeks
- eclampsia
- placental abruption
- APO
- uncontrollable hypertension
- deteriorating platelet count
- deteriorating liver or renal function
- persistent neurological symptoms
- persistent epigastric pain, nausea or vomiting
