by Team 4 AKA Team Kaya Butter: Hadirah, Siqin, Cindy, Kartiqah, Evelyn
ISSUES IN NURSING HOME SECTOR
LACK OF CAPACITY/BEDS FOR THE ELDERLYS
STRATEGIES
Increase nursing homes' beds to avoid major bed crunch issue in the future
Have more plans of building more nursing homes in Singapore
RELATIVELY LOW HEALTH CARE SERVICE QUALITY + MANAGEMENT CAPABILITY
STRATEGIES
Improve quality of management capabilities
Training current management team or sending them to classes or workshops
Hiring more management staffs that have higher management capabilities or skills
the service quality is low which is possibly due to high amount of stress among the staff as they have to meet the high number of stress and low management capabilities
Have cases of abusing elderly in the nursing homes in Singapore
INCREASING OPERATING COSTS [ESPECIALLY FOR VWOs WHICH HAVE CHALLENGES IN FUNDRAISING]
STRATEGIES
For VWOs, they can use social medias to raise awareness which increases more potential fund donors to help them
Donation drives can be held for nursing homes (can be monetary or necessities/items for the elderly)
LACK OF MANPOWER AND QUALITY STAFF
STRATEGIES
Additional funding from MOH to employ more quality staff via attracting more staff with higher salary
Upgrade current team of staff via training and development e.g workshops or classes
Have more volunteers to help
Inviting students from secondary schools or possibly primary schools to help out for some events or days
Using the advantage of social media, to raise awareness of the issue of lack of manpower
Hire more trained staff
Reduce the working time for staff so that they will feel less tired and able to give their 100% focus to the patient
The sector have lack of support & connection due to operating in isolation
STRATEGIES
have integration with acute and Regional health systems
This can allow transition of patients seamlessly from one healthcare provider to the other to receive suitable or appropriate level of care
Resulting in a gap to provide holistic care
