Amgdala
identifying a stressor goes from the thalamus to the amygdala, where the are processed more thoroughly
once it identifies a stressor, it goes through a "fear circuit"
damaged amygdala's results in the improper accessing of a danger level on a stressor
once the amygdala has finished identifying, it sends it to the hypothalamus, where it is then coordinated with the Autonomic System where its then sent to the sympathetic division.
The Sympathetic adrenal medullary (SAM)
initiates the release of adrenaline (epinephrine) and norepinephrine into the bloodstream from the adrenals. which initiates the flight or fight responses from other organs
Hypothalamic- pituitary adrenal axis (HPA)
initiates the release of cortisol into bloodstream
hypothalamus tells pituitary to tell adrenals to release cortisol
cortisol increases the energy available in the bloodstream
woman are more likely to do tend and befriend
alternate to fight and flight, they instead resort to soothing, connections, and protection.
releases more oxytocin, which helps social bonding
lower socioeconomic status is highly correlated with more stress bc they have less food, more health issues, less exercise, and more stressors
stress can be good for the immune system
our body prioritizes body functions and the emergency becomes the priority
chronic stress is more hurtful than a few short-bursts of stress
when we are under stress, the producing of lymphocytes is suppressed, and that will be harmful over time
Type A personality
hardworking competitive workaholics
more susceptible to heart disease, because stress is constant
Type b personality
laid back, mellow person
less susceptible than type A in effected by heart disease, etc
hostile behavior, anger, resentfulness, less likely to create friend networks,
the stress takes a toll on the cardiovascular, because stiff vessels are forced to pump faster and create errors
