Biology test Tuesday 19th September
Muscles
Muscles can only contract :muscle:
Muscles work in pairs so that you can
extend
and
contract
them called antagonistic pairs
Moment (
Nm
) = Purpendicular Force(
M
) X Force(
N
)
Digestion
Enzyme: A biological catalyst, at a micron level
Pancreas produces Enzymes
Small intestine absorbs food into blood and produces enzymes
Large intestine absorbs excess water from food
Liver filters blood
Circulatory system
Plasma is the liquid portion of the blood
Capillaries are narrow blood tubes
Red blood cells contain haemoglobin
White blood cells fight against disease occouring
Antibodies can be produced by certain blood cells
Platelets help the blood to clot
The heart is the body's blood pump
Cells and organisims
Cell organisation
An organisim is a group of systems
Several same cells form a tissue
Different organs form a system
Cell
Multiple tissues form an organ
Respiration
All cells respirate to create energy
Anaerobic respiration is respiration
without
oxygen Glucose = lactic acid +
Energy
Aerobic respiration is respiration
with
oxygen. It the most efficent. Glucose + oxygen = Carbon dioxide + water +
Energy
Diffusion
Substances move from a low concentration to a high concentration
Diffusion happens in your lungs and in your digestive system
Cell features
Animal and plant features
Nucleus- the brain of the cell
Cell mebrane- skin of the cell
Cytoplasm- chemical reactions take palce here
Mitochndria- where the cell respirates
Plant only features
Cell wall- give the cell support
Vacuole- filled with sap
Chloroplasts- plants photosynthesize here
Healthy Lungs
Lungs are specialy adapted, with a large surface area
Lungs have a good flow of blood, which helps in the absorpbstion of oxygen
Ashtma, when triggered causes airways to narrow
Smoking is particulary bad because it covers your lungs in tar, making it hard to absorb oxygen
Mentstrual Cycle
Day 7:
The lining of the womb gets thicker
Day 15:
An egg is realeased and starts travelling down the fallopian tube
Day 5
: the period stops
Day 20:
The new egg reaches the womb, the lining is thick to provide good protection for the embryo
Day 0:
The cycle begins the womb sheds its lining
Day 28:
The end of the cycle, if the egg is not fertilised it will go around again, if not it will end.
