Soil Horizons
Definition- A SOIL HORIZON is a layer parallel to the soil surface whose characteristics differ from the layers above a beneath. Horizons are defined by colour and texture
Soil is primarily made up of three different particles- Clay, Silt, Sand
Soil helps plants; Take in air, Water, and Nutrients with its roots
1st layer-Humus is the organic layer, made up of dead plant matter
2nd layer-Topsoil, it has lots of organic matter mixed in and is usually darkly coloured
3rd layer-Subsoil, in this layer there isn't much organic stuff in this layer
4th layer-Parent Material, this layer usually has lots of large rocks mixed in with soil deep underground
5th layer-Bedrock, it lies beneath the soil, in some places this can be quite near the surface and in others it is very very deep
