    - - His beliefs are summerised in the 7 commandments
        
        By using the word "commandment", it makes a comparison between the 10 commandments in Christianity - it's an unalterable law which the animals should follow religiously
    - - Conflict
        
        Like Stalin, Napoleon gets rid of any opposition (Snowball by ordering "nine enormous dogs" to attack him)
        
        By preventing Snowball having a say, this goes against equality and animalism
        
        Napoleon holds false trials and executes animals who "confess" going against animalism
        
        This goes against the commandment: "No animal shall kill any other animal"
        
        Ironic that Napoleon is the one breaking the commandment
        
        "there was a pile of corpses lying before Napoleon's feet"
      - Conflict and inequality increase on the farm
      - Inequality
        
        The pigs learn to read, but others don't so they are at a disadvantage
        
        Napoleon refuses to educate them so he can maintain authority
        
        Animalism was founded that every animal worked for each other, but in reality is was only for the pigs benefit
        
        They took the most (milk & bread) while other "animals worked like slaves"
    - - Napoleon changes the commandments to suit his needs
  - - - This is based on EDUCATION (intelligence)
      - Goes against the commandment, "All animals are equal"
    - - The other animals accept that they are "cleverer" than them and let them take control
      - They reinforce their stats by taking up the symbols of Man
        
        Napoleon: "with a pipe in his mouth"
      - By controlling education, they controls who's upper class
        
        Snowball
        
        Wants all animals to educate them to spread the ideas of Animalism and so there is true equality
        
        Napoleon
        
        Wants to educate only the young
        
        Piglets: continue the pigs' superiority
        
        Puppies: can train them to be loyal bodyguards
        
        He doesn't want to educate other animals in case the rise up against him: he wants the pigs to keep all the power
        
        Under Napoleon's reign, the class system is unlikely to change
    - - Mollie only wants to learn to write her name
      - Benjamin learns to read, but refuses to use his ability
      - Boxer want to learn to read and write, but can only learn letters, which he is "content with"
      - Ignorance
        
        They have a lack of interest in education so they can't work anything out for themselves
        
        They accept everything they're told and submit to the pigs' authority - they don't have the intellect to object
        
        Napoleon is always right"
  - - - The whole point of animalism and communism is EQUALITY
        
        Everyone should have the same amount of power
      - When Napoleon seizes power on the farm, it shows his how corrupt he is
        
        The more power he has, them more corrupt he becomes and them ore animalism is undermined
        
        He increases his power by controlling:
        
        Actions
        
        By using the dogs
        
        Through trials and executions
        
        By controlling rations
        
        Thoughts
        
        Using propaganda
        
        Removing democracy
        
        Through language #

        Has no power as he can't express his feelings properly
        
        When Snowball was exiled, he can't "think of anything to say"
      - By simplifying commandments, Snowball causes the words to lose their meaning
        
        "Four legs good, two legs bad"

        He uses persuasive language as a form of propaganda
        
        He reinforces Napoleon's power: "He was always referred to [...] as 'our leader, Comrade Napoleon'"

        This was the most dangerous kind of control as it's so difficult to detect and challenge, especially by the uneducated
        
        He was concerned about the power of language and how it could be MANIPULATED to change its purpose and meaning
    - - This is necessary in an equal, democratic society - everyone has the right to a fair say
      - When Snowball disagrees with Napoleon, he's attacked by the dogs and banished
        
        There is no freedom of speech
      - Napoleon knows language is power
        
        By stopping the Sunday meeting's and freedom of speech, he takes away everyone else's power

      - If an animal has a rebellious thought, they can't express it
        
        Napoleon controls their thoughts buy restricting what they hear/say
        
        Trying to control peoples' thoughts is a feature of many totalitarian states

        A weekly parade is held so that Napoleon can show off his power and support
        
        If something good happens, Napoleon takes credit
        
        He claims that the windmill was his idea
        
        The hens are brainwashed into giving him credit for how many eggs they've laid
      - Blame Snowball
        
        Snowball is a scapegoat
        
        "Whenever anything went wrong it became usual to attribute it to Snowball"
        
        He tells the animals that Snowball is the real enemy
        
        This unites them against Snowball and makes them think that the other pigs are on their side
        
        The animal's memories of Snowball aren't enough to stop them believing Squealer's lies
    - - The pigs' propaganda is so effective, the other animals also spread it
        
        By doing so, they seal their own fate as they have become a part of Napoleon's regime

    - - Squealer uses it in speeches
        
        He speaks "so persuasively" that the animals accept his words
        
        He takes them aside and convinces them that the pigs' actions are good making them believe him
      - They keep the animals loyal by spreading stories about cruelty on other farms
        
        This is so they forget their farm's own problems are are less likely to rebel
    - - It is when an individual or group spreads information to make themselves look good
        
        The information is often exaggerated or made up
        
        Napoleon uses it to gain power and keep control
