Hepatitis virus, RNA virus
Mode of transmission: blood-borne (transfusion, IVDU, tattooing, iatrogenic), vertical, sexual exposure is less common

Clinical outcomes: spontaneous clearance, infection -> chronic HCV infection (55-85%) -> liver disease progression.
PH significance: cirrhosis and liver failure, HCC, Hep B co-infection, commonly notified.
Routine prevention: education, community awareness, safe injecting practices, screening of donated blood and tissues, infection control standards in health care setting, make testing available for at-risk, access to Rx
