District 12
Guessing that District 12 is the Poorest
Twelve were defeated. (Chapter 1, p.18) No one can afford the Doctor. (Chapter 1, p.8)
It is the poorest because in p.18 it says there are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 districts. In p.8 they can't afford a doctor and this means that they are the poorest district.
District 12 is a place where the citizens are mad at the Capitol.
"I can hear the crowd murmuring unhappily as they always do when a twelve-year-old gets chosen because no one thinks this is fair." (p.21)
Since they are the poorest they are not with the government because they give them less food, and essentials.
Food shortage is the biggest problem.
"But in district 12, where word
tribute
is pretty much synonymous with the word
corpse
, volunteers are all the extinct."(p.22)
It is why they had to exchange a ticket to Hunger Games into food.
"After we'd harvested those, we scrounged along inside the fence for probably a mile until we'd filled the bucket with the dandelion greens, stems, flowers." (Chapter 4, p.50)
Katniss's family ate wild dandelion for dinner.
District 12 barely gets food, electricity, and water unlike the other rich districts.
"The Capitol twinkles like a vast field of fireflies. Electricity in DIstrict 12 comes and goes, usually we only have it a few hours a day. Often the evenings are spent in candle light." (Chapter 7, p.80)
They are living in a same country(North America), but they live in such different environments.(Capitol -Rich)(District 12 -Poor)
The word tribute means sacrifice/suicide in district 12
"But in district 12, where word

The passage literally says that it means the word corpse, extinct.
Hopeless for winning the game
"It's not like I was going to win the Games anyway." (Chapter 8, p.103)
She knows that she isn't going to win. She knows it even though the Games haven't started yet.
That the Career Tributes who survive the bloodbath will divide up most of these life-sustaining spoils. (Chapter 11, p.149)
Katniss thinks that the career tributes are going to win because of their advantages such as getting trained, and getting more supplies.
Capitol
The Capitol acts like a dictator.
The major tells the history of Panem. (Summary) The Panem rose in North America and was divided into the Capitol and the districts. Then the districts rebelled. After the war district 13 is demolished and the rest was destroyed. Now for the districts to not rebel, the Capitol have the Hunger Games. (Chapter 1, p.18)
The capitol shows dictator ship by controling the other districts by fear(that is why they have the hunger games) for the districts to not rebel.
"That was part of District 13's job until they were destroyed." (Chapter 7, p.74)
The Capitol's government is literally a dictator because they give harm to the districts which they give resources for the Capitol
The Capitol has very strict rules. The citizens did not had freedom.
""They don't always have bows," I say, thinking of the year there were only horrible spiked maces that the tributes had to bludgeon one another to death with." (Chapter 3, p.39)
This shows that the Capitol wants the districts to kill themselves. They are doing that by having the annual Hunger Games.
"There's any number on the train. Cooking for us. Waiting on us. Guarding us. Taking care of us is their job" (Chapter 4, p.49)
The tributes get no freedom by the people who cares for them. Such as the waxing people, dresser, mentor, Effie, and more.
"Some kind of electric field throws you back on the roof." (Chapter 6, p.81)
Even the tributes want to die, but on top of the roof the sides have a electric field that throws people back on the roof. So, the Capitol is even controlling your life.
"Then I remember Haymitch telling me to do exactly what the stylists tell me to do. If it was anyone but Cinna, I might be tempted to ignore him. But after last night's triumph, I don't have a lot of room to criticize his choices." (Chapter 7, p.88)
Haymich told the two tributes that do whatever the stylists make you to do. (Basically you do not have any choice)

"Why am I hopping around like some trained dog trying to please people I hate?" "But don't want them to! They're already taking my future! They can't have the things that mattered to me in the past!" I say. (Chapter 9, p.117)
Katniss thinks that they are taking her future away which is true since they are training her not to express herself.
“Who cares? It’s all a big show. It’s all how you’re perceived. The most I could say about you after your interview was that you were nice enough, although that in itself was a small miracle. Now I can say you’re a heartbreaker. Oh, oh, oh, how the boys back home fall longingly at your feet. Which do you think will get you more sponsors?” (Chapter 10, p.135)
Even though Katniss doesn't like this situation, she still needs to do it because it depends whether she gets sponsors or not which will be a life savior.
And then, because it’s Effie and she’s apparently required by law to say some- thing awful, she adds “I wouldn’t be at all surprised if I finally get promoted to a decent district next year!” (Chapter 10, p.138)
Effie is saying good things about her, however this can be an insult to the tributes because she is saying that District 12 is the worst district.
The Capitol's fashion is very unique. They also Judge people by their appearances.
"Venia, a woman with aqua hair and gold tattoos above her eyebrows." (Chapter 5, p.61)
Having tattoos on top of your eyebrows are very strange/unique.
"You what?" (Chapter 8, p.106) "Effie Trinket lets out a squeal, and everybody is slapping me on the back and cheering and congratulating me." (Chapter 8, p.108)
She thought that her score is going to be low. When she saw it she was really happy.
"They do surgery in the Capitol, to make people appear younger and thinner. In District 12, looking old is something of an achievement since so many people die early. You see an elderly person you want to congratulate them on their longevity, ask the secret of survival. A plump person is envied because they aren’t scraping by like the majority of us. But here it is different. Wrinkles aren’t desirable. A round belly isn’t a sign of success." (Chapter 9, p.124,125)
In the capitol the elderly means ugly and bad. However, in district 12 elderly is like an achievement because most people die when their young.
North America
North America was were Panem started.
The Panem rose in North America. (Chapter 1, p.18)
It is a fact because it says in the book.
Justice Building
Katniss's first visit there. She goes there because she is the tribute.
It's the richest place I've ever been in, deep carpets and a velvet couch. (Chapter 3, p.34)
She goes inside the building because there are possibilities for tributes to escape.
The Train
It is fancier than the Justice building
The tribute train is more fancier. It has a bedroom, dressing chamber, and a private bathroom with running water (hot/cold). (Chapter 3, p.42)
It should be fancier because Hunger games is like going to die so it is like their last feast before their death.
Woods
Even though the woods were illegal and very dangerous it was the only place that had food.
"I probably didn't go more than twenty yards into the woods that day." (p.50) "Any sign of danger, a distant howl, the inexplicable break of a branch, sent me flying back to the fence at first." (p.51)
This proves that without weapons inside the woods they can die very fast.
Arena for the 74th Hunger Games
It is a dangerous place and it won't be strange of somebody dies right now.
"And I need sleep desperately because in the arena every moment I give in to fatigue will be an invitation to death." (Chapter 10, p.139)
The tributes need to alert for people even when their sleeping or else, the tributes can get killed.
"Several lie dead already on the ground." (Chapter 11, p.151)
Just when the game started, there are dead bodies lied around. (about half of the tributes maybe)
