Classroom Maker Space :explode: (Scratch!,…

The philosophy behind my maker space is to create material connections for students through creative choice and expression. I want my students to literally bring the words off the page!
There may not seem to be a practical application in an English classroom at first but using laser cutting to create thing such as puzzles can reinforce the idea that a whole image (or in this case, piece of writing) can only be understood in its entirety if all the pieces are present.
The Course Standard Addressed in this Space:
Apply knowledge of language to understand how language functions in different contexts, to
make effective choices for meaning or style, and to comprehend more fully when reading or
listening
Scratch is an interactive tool where students can create their own interactive stories where they can demonstrate their abilities to make choices for meaning or style.
I want my students to be able to see and understand words as connections and how incorrect syntax or ineffective choices can render entire pieces of writing, or "circuits", ineffective, which these chibitronic circuit stickers are perfect for.
Makey Makey kits will provide students with the opportunity to express their own creativity, once again valuing choices and their effect on the whole, and give them an opportunity for expression in ways they may find papers constrictive
Cardboard Posters provide a "traditional" option for students to accomplish much the same goals of making connections, viewing pieces and wholes, and to express creativity without requiring students to use more "involved", "new", or "technologically based" tools. In addition to the cardboard posters LED lights and art supplies to make them "pop" will also be available.
