In the article, readers are able to see that there are claims of racism in the Southern Baptist church. a black preacher has recently spoken out about and has chosen to leave the denomination in favor for a more accepting one. He claims that racist remarks have been made at the national convention. This reveals to me that there are racial tensions within the church, as well as, segregation of ideas in the services. It will be interesting to see the difference in preaching styles.
"In addition to the denomination’s pro-slavery roots, he pointed to a series of recent incidents that led to his departure, including a controversy at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary that involved white professors dressing up as rappers" (Meyer).

This article was about the social norms surrounding black churches. It outlined how to dress, act and what to expect out of a service. It will help me with my project because it tells me what I should be prepared for and how I should dress for my Sunday adventure.

This article gives me the history of the black Protestant church in the US. It tells the story of how the church evolved during slavery as a time of hope to how it helped to shape the Civil Rights movement. It has shown me the hope and resilience black Protestant churches have and how much they have contributed to American society.
"10 Things I Wish Everyone Knew About the Black Church"
"While aspects of prosperity teaching have been an underlying philosophy that delivered/delivers us out of all of those stages, its current usage and parlance is misguided and not representative of the whole black church experience" (Symmonds).

This article helps to expand upon different parts of the black church, as well as, dispute any misconceptions made by others. For example, the article states that there are white pastors in black churches and there are black Catholic churches. These are both things that people do not believe to be true yet they exist in our society. This article is helpful for my project beause it allows me to see another perspective on the black church community.
