2. Body Image
Attitudes related to the body, including physical appearance, structure, or function
Stressors
- Loss of body parts (Amputation, mastectomy, hysterectomy, etc.)
- Loss of body function (Arthritis, stroke, spinal cord injury, etc.)
- Cultural influences of what an ideal body image looks like
Enhancement Strategies
- Suggest a healthier lifestyle
- Consult w/ individuals who have experienced similar body image issues/changes
3. Role Performance
The way in which individuals perceive their ability to carry out significant roles
Stressors
- Role conflict; when a person simultaneously assumes two or more roles that are inconsistent, contradictory, or mutually exclusive
- Role ambiguity; when a person assumes a role that has unclear expectations
- Role strain; the stress or strain experienced when behaviours, expectations, or obligations associated w/ a single role are incompatible
- Role overload; having more responsibilities within a role that are manageable
Enhancement Strategies
- Avoid comparing oneself to others
- Develop a collection of skills
- Reframe situation appropriately - perspective

The internal sense of individuality, wholeness, and consistency of a person over time and in various circumstances

- Developmental markers, such as puberty, menopause, retirement, and decreasing physical ability
- Anything that causes great physical, emotional, and/or mental changes
- Choosing between balancing career and family or following religious/cultural traditions
- Identity confusion is when people do not maintain a clear, consistent and continuous consciousness of a personal identity; can occur at any stage in life

- Increase knowledge of available resources and support groups and utilize said resources and support groups

An individual’s overall sense of self-worth or the emotional appraisal of self-concept
