Abrasion: Eroded rocks scrape against the channel, wearing it away.
Attrition: Eroded rocks picked up by the river smash into each other and break into smaller fragments and their edges also get rounded.
Hydraulic action: The velocity of the water forces water into cracks in the channel and the pressure causes the river channel to be eroded.
