As the human population increases so does our use of land for growing food. To make food, we need water. watering the land that does not get enough water through rainfall. Nearly 70% of all freshwater used in the world is for agriculture, water is used for livestock
People rely on water 9 times out of 10. Water is used in the home, for and for industry. Water can even be used to generate electricity. Not everyone in the world has access to clean drinking water.
For about 300 years, the world’s population has increased by 7 X, but the amount of water we use has increased alot more then 7 X. We use fresh water for more things than before. This means that fresh water supplies are becoming harder to get then in lots of parts of the world
Lots of countries use different amounts of water, but we all use them in the same way. The way people use water is able to bu put into 3 groups
About 20% of freshwater is used for industries that produce things like metals, wood, paper products, chemicals, petrol and oil. For example, it takes about 50,000 litres of water to make a car and about 200 litres to make one newspaper.
