Background
"
DeathWatch
" is about the main character Ben being stripped naked and hunted by Madec with a gun, jeep, and binoculars.
"
DeathWatch
" is full of suspense , This story always has you wondering about who lives or dies and who will go to the end. The novel keeps you with questions.
Author
Most of his stories are adventure books aimed to his younger audience such as , "
DeathWatch
."
Robb White fought in the Military as pilot in World War 2 eventually he retired as a high rank of lieutenant commander after five years of service.
Setting
The setting of the novel is the desert. Being in the desert is very dangerous , having survival materials is very important. Such as , carrying a GPS from where you came from to the desert. One of the many dangers is getting lost in the desert.
Usually it's very hot in the desert. You can't survive without water when in the heat. Dehydration is caused by lack of water in your system. Bringing 1-2 gallons is a smart idea when taking a trip to the desert. Take dehydration very seriously because it may result in death.
Conflict
In the novel "DeathWatch" Ben and Madec get into an accident which involves a murder. Madec tries to bribe Ben multiple times so he won't tell. Since Madec has a gun he's higher in power.
Another conflict for Ben is surviving in the middle of the desert. Ben has no food or water is walking in nothing but his undergarments. He is also being shot at by a gun and is walking barefoot. His feet are ate up terribly and he is very dehydration.
Theme
Never let an obstacle get in the way of the truth is the theme of "
DeathWatch
".
On the last chapter Ben keeps the same story even though no one believes him and he has no evidence because Madec is more believable in the situation. Since Madec is more injured. Ben knows the truth and no one considers his claims , he keeps pushing the truth , over, over, and over again. Eventually the doctor proves he's right. This shows that Ben didn't let others opinions and everyone regards to the situation get in the way of the truth.
Characterization
I think two mood words for Ben is
hopeless
and
desperate
.
I think this because towards the middle Ben is ready to give up and wants to cry but he's so dehydrated that he can't and he feels like no one can help him , he can't help himself. I think he's desperate because when he felt like giving up he was ready to go to Madec's tent and tell him that he gives up. That Madec would win this fight. Lastly he was in the cave and he just sat there moping and
Mood
The mood for "
DeathWatch
" is very negative throughout the novel. I think this because Ben never has good luck. He's always going through a problem even when he has a solution there's always some bad luck happening.
The mood of this novel is
gloomy
. In the novel when Ben is lying on the desert floor waiting for Madec. Ben covered himself with sand and put a breathing pole, waiting for Madec with his slingshot. He could only breathe threw he mouth and he was terrified that Madec would see his pole and put sand inside and kill him. He felt Madec coming up and he kept hallucinating hearing different noises thinking it was Madec. He also knew he would struggle getting up because he had been so weak from no food. As the audience reading the story this seems very sad to read about.
