Collaboration: In groups of 4, students will be provided a reading packet on WWII. In the packet, there will be four one page articles on the following topics (ranging from the most challenging to least challenging article): the Holocaust, rationing of supplies on the home front, technology of WWII, and the creation of the atomic bomb. The students will jigsaw the packet. Each will be assigned an article and the corresponding questions to complete. Then, each member will be responsible for teaching group members their assigned topic.Students will also be placed in groups to create a flip grid presentation for the class.
Math (Tier 3): Research both the population and number of people who went to war for each country. Determine the fraction, decimal, and percentage of each country's population that went to war. Shade in the corresponding values on 100 charts in order to compare the ratio of each country's population that went to war.

Differentiation: The math component of the lesson will be differentiated based on students' levels. The reading will be differentiated based on students' reading levels and the difficulty of the article they read/questions they answer in the jigsaw activity.
