Scientific Method-Guidlines to set up an experiment

There is more than one Scientific Method

Scientists use the Scientific Method so that they could compare their results after the experiment

Scientific Method

Collect Results

Make a Conclusion

Conduct an Experiment

Look Over Results

State Hypothosis

Conclusion

Identify problen

Explain the following terms

Experimental Group-have the independent variable

Control Group-lacks independent

Constants-Things you need to keep doing in order to keep the experiment going

Placebo-When you think something is going on when really it is in your head

Dependent Variable-X Axes

Scientific Theory-an explanation for something that happens in the natural world

Independent Variable-Y Axes

Hypothesis-What you think is going to happen

Bias-weather or not a theory is true or false

Inference-a logical interpretation of observations based on prior knowledge or experience

Qualitative Observation-made with instruments (rulers, balances, graduated cylinder, and thermometer

Quantitative Observation-data that can be observed with our senses

4 Most Common elements in Living Things

Hydrogen

Nitrogen

Carbon

Oxygen

Ionic Bonds-formed when 1 or more electrons are shared between atoms

Ions-atoms that have a change

Covalent Bonds-stronger than Ionic bonds

Polar and Non-polar molecules

Polar Molecules-has a partial positive charge in one part of the molecule and complementary negative charge in another part

Non-polar Molecules-don't have any charge

A water molecule is H2O

Holds a covalent bond

Water is polar which means that there are bonds between separate molecules

Hydrogen bonds are the weakest bonds and are cohesion

Solution-molecules are evenly distributed throughout the solvent

Solvent-The substance the solute is put in (water is the best solvent)

Solut-what is dissolved (sugar dissolves in water)
