Animal Farm (Outline/MindMap) George Orwell
Poster Focus:
The Other Farms
Explanation
: It is critical for the animals on Animal Farm to believe the farm animals on neighboring farms have it worse off than they do. The pigs would need to implement propaganda to keep the animals under their control and propagate negative news about the other farms (kind of like the USA did with the Japanese in WWII).
Reasoning
: This is an anti-buddhist piece of propaganda from the Christian perspective. I could create something similar, except against the other farms or against Sugar Candy Mountain from the Pig perspective.
Rhetorical Stance:
This is a mix of all 3 I think - it has Logos because Christian's believe individuals who do not accept Jesus cannot get into heaven (thus they must save those individuals). It is also Pathos because they would feel sorry for the individual who is not Christian. Maybe Ethos because it reinforces the credibility of Jesus Christ and Christianity and attacks the character of the
other.
Reasoning
: I could take this and make it a dig on the other farms in the area - may not be the strongest idea.
Rhetorical Stance
: Pathos mostly, because it is making people feel like if they are superior to the other animals - may also play with ethos because it attacks the credibility of someone who partakes in a certain activity.
Reasoning
: This is nationalist - I can change it up to fit animal farm, use only a couple of colors.
Rhetorical Stance:
I think this would be Ethos and Pathos, mostly. It plays on the credibility of one country over another (their power) and it makes the person looking at it feel powerful and protected.
Flier
A flier on the importance of barley to agriculture.
Reasoning:
The pigs would need to convince the animals that Barley was for the betterment of the farm and not for the whiskey. It could have nutritional information in it that is #fakenews.
Information to include:
I would need to include information on nutrition facts, agricultural facts, some sort of statistics, a propaganda image.
Reasoning:
This would most likely focus on Logos the most.
Pamphlet
Sugarcandy Mountain Info Pamphlet
Reasoning:
Sugarcandy Mountain is critical to animal farm because it only shows up when things are in dire traits (at the beginning of the book and at the end of the book). I could design a flier that promotes an informational meeting of some kind.
Something like THIS
Or this:
This would probably be Pathos - fear of not getting into heaven or fear of getting into hell.
Slogans or Shiboleths
(not my strongest)
When the dogs are around, the sun is down.
Reasoning:
This would be more anti-establishment propaganda - maybe some sort of passcode for the rebellion?
The cat is the only cat who knows where it is at.
Reasoning:
The cat was needed in the book, it could have been a spy? Maybe he is a spy? This would be more propaganda for the rebellion.
Commandments
Commandments for the dogs to follow?
Example:
Napoleon is the best pig. I am a good boy. Bow wow wow (okay, maybe this one needs to be flushed out more)
Commandments for the pigs to follow?
Commandments for the visiting humans to follow?
Examples:
Though shall not make eye contact with an animal / though shall conduct yourself with decorum.
My Thoughts
I think my best options are the flier or the pamphlet. The commandments and Slogans were difficult for me to come up with.
