Eukaryotic Cell Organelles
Cell Membrane
The cell membrane is like a front door. It only lets in the people and things that the owner of the house wants to let in.
Vacuole
Ziplock Bags are like vacuoles because they hold what the owner wants them to hold and they can also be used to transport things.
Cytoplasm
Cytoplasm is like Tupperware. It helps keep things in place but also helps them move from place to place, much like what Tupperware does with food.
Nucleus
The nucleus of an atom is like an openable ottoman because an ottoman holds stuff like your blankets or boarding games and a nucleus holds DNA.
Rough ER
The Rough ER is like the hallways of a home because it transports the people around the house, which is what the Rough ER does with proteins
Smooth ER
The smooth ER is like a multi-surface cleaner because it detoxifies the stuff that is on what you want to clean like the smooth ER detoxifies what it does.
Golgi Body
The Goldgi Body is like an envelope because it packages up a letter and sends it out to where it needs to go. Much like what it does to proteins.
Lysosomes
Lysosomes are like the trash cans of the cell. When something is broken or old it is thrown in the trash can and when an organelle is broken or old a lysosome gets rid of it.
Mitochondria
The mitochondria is like a coffee maker because it turns proteins (coffee beans) into energy/ATP (coffee). And because coffee gives people energy.
Cell Wall (Plants)
Plastic boxes are like cell walls because the owner of the box decides what goes in and out and it is very sturdy and protective of its contents.
Microtubules
Microtubules are like chairs because they don’t break under the weight of a person and every once in a while they help people reach things
Chloroplasts (plants)
Chloroplasts are like Microwaves because they take what is given to them and turn it into something else. Microwaves use energy to heat up food and chloroplasts use sunlight to create energy.
Microfillaments
Microfillaments are like fans because fans help air get around the house and microfillaments help get organelles around the cell
Ribosomes
Ribosomes are like sewing machines because ribosomes assemble proteins and sewing machines assemble clothes etc.
