diaphoresis (tachy, central cyanosis)
-
complication
status asthmaticus (relating to severe & presistent asthma that do not respond to conventional therapy)
-
-
-
immediate nursing action
monitoring severity (breathing sound, vitals, pulse oximetry, peak flow rate)
-
-
-
Risk factors
-
allergy (seasonal allergy, perennial allergens, airway irritants, food, stress)
-
patho
mast cells secreted medicators -> which leads to mucus hypersecretion, increase in blood flow, vasoconstriction
management
pharmacological therapy
quick-relief med: ventolin (short-acting beta2 adrenergic agonists), atrovent (anticholinergic)
long acting control med: corticosteroid, theophylline (200mg) (mild to moderate bronchodilator)
combined therapy: inhaled corticosteroid & theophylline -> alleviating symptoms, improve airway function, decrease peak flow variability
-
-
reversible airway inflammatory disease involving broncho-constriction, airway edema, hyperresponsiveness -> airway narrowing
