Juana holds the family together. When Kino hits her, she could have very well not forgiven him. But she chose to go back and help him and love him
Juana is the backbone of her and Kino's relationship. She is a good wife. She can make split second decisions when Kino cannot, she is strong and brave and Kino doesn't know it but he needs her. She understands that she needs him. It is necessary for her survival, but she embraces this
Juana is the foil of the main theme, greed destroys you. When the first sign of trouble begins, she is ready to throw the pearl away. She doesn't let herself fall into greed, she would rather keep their life the same, where they were happy

Due to the barriers and the lack of friendship, she was very lonely and this also shows the audience how unfair some womens situations actually were
Curley's wife's name isn't even mentioned. She was seen as Curley's property. People didn't even think she was worth calling by name
