She realizes the thought of wealth has gone to Kino's head, he won't focus on what's more important. The vicious animal comes out in him, once Juana makes an attempt to get rid of the pearl into the water. However, she is still calm and wise through it all.
After her prayers for good fortune in the form of a giant pearl are answered. They may be able to help pay the doctor to cure the baby of the scorpion sting
