At the beginning, tried to talk for Lennie.
Decided they should flee to Soledad.
Main Theme:
Life is cruel, things will not always go as planned. In the cruel reality of life, friends can make it better or worse.
Your plans don't always go accordingly.
((There's two so i could see which is more accurate))
Characteristics: Smart, caring, cautious, kind of doubtful, understanding, a little lonely
Relate to theme:
Lennie and George had planned to work at the ranch for about a month to get enough money to buy a place. They figured they could make it the whole month with no incidents. Until Lennie ended up killing a dog and a woman. George had to do something he would've never planned on, shooting Lennie.
OMM shows how life can be hard and have many obstacles, this is shown with George as well. George has to live his life taking care of Lennie, so when Lennie is in trouble, so is he. But having friends can also make life better. George and Lennie travel together everywhere, meaning they are never alone. When they move to the ranch, George also has Slim and Candy. George never really expresses sadness during their time there, before the death of Lennie.
Juana
Important Actions:
Tried to get rid of Pearl because she knew it will keep bringing evil.
Picked up the pearl after Kino beat her and took it back to him
After Kino beat her, she stays down because she accepts that he could kill her
Main Theme:
The Pearl's main theme is the idea of wealth or becoming wealthy can get to you and make you act in ways you wouldn't usually act.
You may not have a lot of possessions, but family is more valuable than any material thing. In other words, don't take what you have for granted.
((There's two so i could see which one is more accurate))
Characteristics: Understanding, peaceful, religious, traditional, caring, patient, confident, content
Relate to theme:
Juana is the foil to the main theme of you may not have a lot of possessions, but family is more valuable than any material thing, don't take what you have for granted. When Kino first found the pearl, Juana was excited just like him. Juana though, always knew after that first day that the pearl would bring evil. She tried asking to get rid of it, and eventually decided to do it herself. This backfired and even after Kino beat her, she knew how important the pearl was to him. She stuck by his side and helped to hide the family.
Kino showed more of acting differently for the wealth. Juana acted a little different, in fear though. She knew the pearl would bring evil until it was gone. She stuck by his side the whole way until she decided to get rid of it.
mature, usually, calm not easily set off, tried to take matters into their own hands.
