Try to send an email to the author to see if the source is credible and believable. If the site ends in .gov it means its government and trustable

.edu is an educational place like a college, .org is an organization site and it is like libraries. .com and .net are not super credible because they are used for commercial and anyone can have one because they are easy to get.
If it has a tilde then the author's own webpage on a university server. Is the author an expert on the area.
