(Set in Alabama during American Civil War) Peyton Farquhar is about to be hanged after he was snitched on by a Federal Scout (Union Spy) for being believed of being a Confederate, however in the story, all Peyton did was imply he wanted to intercept with the Union's railroad after encountering what he believed was a Confederate soldier to perhaps side with him. Just as he is about to be hanged, he dreams of escaping by falling into the river and seeing his wife, but he then wakes up and is hanged.
