Reliable & Credible - Website That Does It All: https://www.nasa.gov/
Reliable & Credible - Website That Does It All: https://www.nasa.gov/
Step #1 - One way you can see if there is an author or the author is credible is looking at the bottom of the page where other facts may be located. Another way you can see the author or if they are credible is by looking at the 'About Us" page where it will tell you about the organization or just the singular author.
-
Step #3 - Sometimes there will be a little tilde (~) on the URL from a .org site. This means that the people who created the site did not make that page inside of the website. What this means is that a separate author has made a page on the website. So it may not be as credible as a page that has been written by the authors of the website.
Step #2 - Look at the link! A big factor to determine if a website is credible is the URL. Some of the more trusted URL's are .gov, .edu and .org. Others such as .com and .net are sometimes trusted but the .org, .edu and .gov are certainly going to be more trusted than the other two.
-
Step #3 - If the site is written by a person who is not an expert in that field it may not be the most reliable. If it is written by an 8th-grade student it may not be the most credible or reliable but if it is written by a college student who is in a current class it is most likely reliable.
Step #2 - When you are reading focus on there wording if they are using words like amazing and monumental they may have a positive bias. If they use words like horrible and disgusting they may have a negative bias towards the topic so pay attention to the words.
-
-
Step #1 - Does the author tell you where they found the information. If they cite there sources and can link the sources they used they are more likely to be credible then websites and authors who don't.
Step #2 - If you can cross check with other websites with the information the website is more credible. If they link the websites to cross-check with or others that you know are reliable it is most likely the information is credible and reliable.
-
Step #1 - When there is a ".com" a commercial site they may not be very bias or they may be very biased just depends on who or what created it.
-
Step #3 - Also if they use a persuasive word like if you believe, you should think, look at it this way. These words can all be used to persuade someone in a certain way.
-
Step #3 - If it does say when the website has been updated and it is recently then that means that the website is being updated constantly and will most likely have credible information.
Step #2 - If it does not show when it was last updated then this could mean that they haven't changed the site since they made it. Which could mean that it is outdated.
