The most reliable websites will have .gov, .edu, and .org. The websites with lower reliability will end with .net or .com.

If there is a tilde (~) in the web address then that means that the section of the website is part of the author's personal page instead of being an official webpage of the organization or school

Look for the author at the bottom of the webpage or in the about us section.

Look for words that are trying to push you one way or another to determine whether that site is biased or not.

Are they trying to sell something on the website?

Look for a mission statement in the about us section to see if the website was created for a certain purpose.

Check other sources about the same topic and see if the information is similar or the same.

Can the person that wrote the website be trusted to give correct information on the topic?

Does the author give you a list of the resources that they used and got information from?

Do the links in the website work or is there an error message?

Has it been revised recently? (Look for revised date at the bottom of the webpage.)

Is the topic a topic where the information would not change? (Example- Most History Topics)
