Health Promotion Essay:
Heart disease and exercise
Aim
Bring down the incidence of heart disease in North East of England through promotion of light exercise
Factors that hinder exercise
Busy lives; no time to exercise
Perceived as expensive
Self-concious; embarrassed
Bad at it so dislike it; catch-22
Don't want to exercise alone
Don't know what type of exercise to do
Family/friends don't exercise so don't want to be the only ones doing it/be the odd one out by exercising
Don't understand how it can help
Health Promotion
Show how little actually needs to be done
Educate individuals on how they can exercise in their day-to-day lives
Encourage people that the more they do the more they will feel like doing
Demonstration of easy exercises; videos of exercises; advertisements
More plus size posters in gym and fitness areas; encourage exercise for more than skinny people or for more than just looking good
Demonstration of how we can increase activity in our life without spending money; i.e. exercises using home objects or just going for walks etc.
Not just about prevention but also exercising when having heart disease; can reduce effects not just give up and live with it; prevention of progression
