food chains and food webs
predator and prey
organisms needs to live in a habitat where it can find enough food
plants make there own food from gasses in the air, nutrients in the soil and energy from the sun
animals that eat other animals for energy are called predators
animals that live in the same habitat and eat the same food they have to compete to get the food
Food Chains
plants get there energy from the water in the ground and the sunlight these two mixes produce energy in the chlorophyll in the leaves of the plant this is called photosynthesis
some predators eat plants to get the stored energy out of them just like we eat veggies to get our energy and nutrients from the plant
plants and animals use energy in growing and in day-to-day activity
Producers, Decomposers and consumers
The sun gives out light energy to the plants or producers
Plants trap the sun's energy in their leaves and use the light energy for photosynthesis
Food Chains start with the sun as it start photosynthesis
consumers eat the producers and get there energy from the producers
Omnivores
Omnivores are consumers that eat plants and animals
Humans have a varied diet and considered omnivores
Omnivores are consumers as they eat the producers
Decomposers
Decomposers break down the remains of dead plants and animals in addition to breaking down any waste products left by living animals
Decomposers also break down any waste products left by the living animals
Scavengers
Scavengers to not have nutrients in there waste
Once scavengers have done there part decomposers take over and breakdown the left over waste or dead animal
Scavengers eat dead animals and waste and get there energy from dead animals
Tertiary Consumers
An example of this is a barn owl a barn owl prey and eat the snake making the barn owl a Tertiary Consumer
Tertiary Consumers eat secondary consumers
Food Webs
Changes occur in the Food web as populations or different organisms increase or decrease or become extinct
A food web is made up of all of the foodchains in an ecosystem
