Mirror

Line 5:
"The eye of a little God, four cornered" A metaphor comparing a mirror's judgement to god. The idea though is that people make out the mirror to judge like god, but in reality, the viewer's themselves are judging themselves like a god would judge.
-
Line 6:
"I meditate on the opposite wall" This is showing that a reflection, which we established doesn't judge, is truly at peace "constantly meditat[ing]" because it isn't concerned with judgment.

The Shift
In line 10, the poem shifts the reflection from a young girl to a woman, who struggles with the fact that she is getting older and the fact that society says that her increasing age makes her uglier every day
"I think that it is apart of my heart" This shows that the unhappiness from seeing a reflection will always stay, meaning that the reflection will never truly leave only Shift
Line 12:
The symbolism is showing the candles or the moon as people who judge her. Candles are small so they could be individual people, but the moon is big so it could be society as a whole. Candles and the moon both give off light, and light is perceived as good. It is seen as good by society to look attractive and be young.
Conclusion
"In me she has drowned a young girl, and in me an old woman
Rises toward her day after day, like a terrible fish"
She will never be as beautiful as she once was, she is afraid that as every day passes, people respected her less and less because of her less appealing appearance.
