Mendelian Genetics
Extensions to expression
incomplete, codominance
incomplete: novel blended phenotype, codominance: patchy
-
recessive lethal alleles
hetero and homo recessive survive, homo dom dies. 2:1 ratio
-
-
-
Sex Linked Traits
-
X Linked dominant
-
-
Affected father= 100% daughters affected, 0% sons affected
Y linked
Affects all males, cannot be transmitted by females
-
Aneuploidy: abnormal # c'somes in cells, randomly caused by nondisjunction
-
-
-
-
Sex Chromosomes
SRYs
Sex determining region; ultimate determination of maleness; you could put this on an X c'some and it would act like a Y because it activates the tests to produce male hormones that block female hormones
PARs
Pseudoautosomal regions: common to X and Y; this is where the sex c'somes connect during metaphase since they aren't techinically homologs
MSRs
(male specific region): literally anything on a Y c'some that isn't PAR; gametogenesis and SRYs included in MSR
-
Patterns of inheritance
-
Horizontal: unaffected parents are heterogenous carriers, children affected
Lethality
-
-
Late onset: organism reproduces before gene disease develops, thus passing down disease to offspring
