With George, I think Steinbeck was trying to create a feeling of understanding and empathy for the readers. George is the common man who sometimes has to make tough decisions on what he thinks would be best for the people around him. George is very troubled in his mind I think because he faces the contrast between being humane, and helping a friend, someone who's been there forever.
With Kino, I believe that the author also wanted to create understanding between the readers and Kino. All Kino wants to do is create a good life for himself and the people around him. I'm sure most men in his situation would've felt the same. Kino relates to the theme in a major way because he faces choices and decisions that are on the same lines as all of the themes I have listed.
Kino relates to the themes of The Pearl because we see how power and sin can bring destruction to the ones around you, and even yourself. We also get to see how Kino reacts and what he will do when he has the opportunity to better his life, as well as his family's life.Through all of this, this could've been Kino's destiny to learn what a terrible thing power and wealth can do to people sometimes.
George feels the effects of the themes of OMM in a negative manner. We see how the friendship between him and Lennie will cause him to make some difficult decisions regarding the actions that Lennie has carried out. With this we see that George and Lennie really experience the cruelty of man when they go to these different places of isolation and how that affects them
