Differentiated Learning
Quick Assessments
Learning about differentiation was one of my "Aha" moments, especially when discussing quick assessments. The resources we used throughout this course have given me so many ideas on how I plan to begin and end each lesson.
Kalhoot is a really great interactive app for quick assessment. Depending on the technological resources available, this could be an easy warmup before beginning a new lesson or, a fun way to see what needs extra attention before a test.
Quizlet was a resource I want to promote for my students, both to help with vocabulary terms and to build community. My students can create and share flashcards with each other. It's a great way to study with a group, without, actually have to meet after school. This may be a tool I use for students in the high school ages.
Presentations
I now understand the significance of utilizing multiple platforms for presenting content, in order to reach different students with visual interaction.
SMART Notebook has great tools, like the timer and gamer board spinner. I hope to have a SMART-board but if not, this can be easily projected onto any projection screen.
PhotoPeach was so much fun to work with and easy enough that I feel my students could use. I loved that I could find music from YouTube and personalize it a bit.
Classroom Website
Parent Involvement
The classroom website was a great way to begin thinking about my own classroom. Being able to have a webpage that allows parents to participate is a great resource.
-
Accountability
Probably my favorite part of the classroom website was its ability to hold students accountable for their own work. They have all the information at their fingertips.
I can provide links to all the online resources I want them to access. For writing assignments I can provide expectations and rubrics, allowing students to stay on track.
Resources
Overwhelming
There were so many fantastic resources available, but not all of them were appropriate for what I want my classroom to be. I learned to not get so overwhelmed and use the tools that will work best for me, not to force it.

Perfect Fit
This course allowed me to explore the internet in a way I hadn't before. Looking for websites to use is hard for secondary educators, or at least that I felt were age appropriate. I hold on, tightly, to the sites that fit my taste and use them to find more.
DocsTeach is my favorite resource so far, there are so many amazing primary sources. They are easy to find and they range from text, audio and video.
TPACK
AHA
The TPACK model was my "gotcha" moment in this class. Everything came together so much better after fully understanding the expectations for technology in the classroom.
Technology is a tool to help me present the content. Students feel more engaged when technology is integrated into the classroom. It also allows me to differentiated much easier so I can modify my lessons to fit all needs. It also helped to actually observe another teacher using the TPACK model during my practicum.
Overall Thoughts
Instructions
I felt the instructions for each activity was explained well. As the course progressed the expectations became much clearer.
I felt a little overwhelmed with the amount of tasks on the first week but, once I understood the expectations, everything felt lighter.
Grading
I think the grading was fair and feedback was always constructive. The tasks were graded with plenty of time for me to reflect on the feedback with context.
The course was a great way to begin my journey into education. I found several resources to help enhance my content, as well as, myself as an educator. I look forward to applying all that I have learned into my classroom.
