I would charge in distance as distance is always greater than or equal to the displacement. One would get more money when charging for distance. If a taxi driver gets you to a place 5 miles away from your house, and then gets you back to your house, the charge would be $0. If the same taxi driver charged for distance he would get more money.

I would charge in distance because the distance is always longer than or equal to the displacement. For example if Jimmy went 5 meters north then 3 meters west the displacement is 5.83. 5.83 is less than 8 which is more than the displacement
