Teeth- break down the food
Oesophagus
Muscular tube- connects the mouth and stomach
Liver
Where BILE is produced
Stomach
Pummels the food with muscular walls
Produces protease enzymes- PEPSIN
Produces Hydrochloric acid
Gall Bladder
Where BILE is stored
Pancreas
Produces protease, amylase + lipase enzymes- goes into the small intestine
Large Intestine
Excess water is absorbed from food
Small Intestine
Produces protease, amylase, lipase
Top of the small intestine is the DUODENUM
Bottom of the small intestine is the ILEUM
Rectum
Last part of the large intestine
Indigestible food are stored- before passing through the anus
Villi in the small intestine helps with ABSORPTION
It is very long- enough time to break down the food
Big surface area- walls of the intestine covered in villi
Each cell on the villi has its own MICROVILLI
Villi have good blood supply
Villi have a single permeable layer of surface cells
