Students with SEN
1. How to identify? Are students presenting following signs?
Unable to keep up with school work
2. After the identification?
Schoo l-> Parent
- Hold the parent-teacher-admin meeting
- Present Individual Education Plan
- Discuss if the plan seems to fit for the identified student
Unable to stay on task in the classroom/ unable to follow instructions
Have behavioral issues: social disconnection with other students or sometimes becoming too connected in negative ways
Avoid talking about academic-related subject
Have emotional outbursts (out of frustration, anger, sadness, etc)
Teacher -> School
- Have the school bring in a specialist (either residential specialist or from outside) to observe the student
- Notify the school
- Notify parents
3. Implementations -
in the case of Dwight International School in Seoul
Students will be given in-class support from the school's SEN program if necessary to ensure that the student is receiving what they need
Some adjustments and modification of assessments and contents can be made for subjects depending on the level of the student's numeracy and literacy
Share the IEP plan with the teachers so that the IEP students will also have the access to the full curriculum as their peers
Teachers will be updated with all the current SEN support and framework in full support of the students with SEN
Record the student's progress (both classroom teachers and special ed teachers) and review the progress at the end of each grading (or other designated specific period)
Consult with the parents to keep them updated about the student's progress
