They are cutting down the forests to make room for millions of buildings due to increase in population

Mining: The forest is being dug up to get to the minerals and resources below the surface. This way the country makes money from both the wood and resources such as gold and diamonds

As Malaysia continues to deforest, more and more species of plants and animals are becoming endangered and if they continue the these will eventually become extinct
Indigenous people in Malaysia have relied on the rainforest for years for shelter, food and medicine. It is being taken from them.

Some top officials in areas of the island of Borneo have started an effort to pass a law regarding sustainable logging on the island.

Why should the rainforest be protected?
Food: The rainforest provides multiple types of food for the residents of Malaysia and people all over the world inc. fruits and nuts
Medicine: Scientists predict that there are ingredients to multiple cures in the rainforests that have not yet been discovered and by destroying it we are possibly destroying any chance of finding these cures.
