Electoral College- institution that officially elects the President and Vice President of the United States every four years
electors- those part of the electoral college- chosen by popular vote on a state-by-state basis, those who actually choose our president
Twenty-third Amendment - gives residents of Washington DC the right to vote for representatives in the Electoral College- relates to electoral college

Ad hoc- attorney is one hired to handle one problem only, perhaps to analyze a specialized area of the law or argue a key point in court, to solve a particular problem
Ambassadors- the official representative of the United States government to another country- they work in mostly foreign policy affairs
Presidential Succession Act of 1947- The original act of 1792 had placed the Senate president pro tempore and Speaker of the House in the line of succession, but in 1886 Congress had removed them.

Twelfth Amendment- providing for the election of the president and vice president by the electoral college: no majority vote for one person, the House of Representatives (one vote per state) chooses the president and the Senate the vice president
Twentieth Amendment- terms of the President and Vice President end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January
